Let me guess you've been feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or like the world has totally gone to shit. Well, have no fear you're in the right place friend. Our mission here at free spirit stitches is to create more joy in the world anyway we can and one of those ways is with the create more joy podcast. So join me, Sarah D your feisty, sassy, sarcastic host, as we chat about all things, joy and how to create more of it in your life because we know the world really needs it. Now I'm not gonna pretend it's always sunshine and rainbows cuz it bloody well isn't. But I do know among all those messy bits, there's lots of joy too. You're guaranteed to hear some F bombs, that's what she says and lots of tangents. But if you hang with me, I'll help you create more joy! Hey friends! Welcome to another episode of the create more joy podcast. Thank you so much for being here. I'm super excited we'll be spending a bit of time with you right now. Before we dive into today's topic I want to revisit or just touch in on our joy challenge from last episode. So last episode would've been episode four and our joy challenge or what I challenged you with and also myself was to unfollow five accounts, whether it be Instagram, Facebook, like whatever social platform is your jam right now, unfollow five accounts that do not make you feel good when you see them, something gets triggered in you. Don't wanna get too into it, i f you're intrigued, I would recommend after this episode, you go back and listen to episode four. And of course, while you're at it, you might as well just listen to'em all. I said I was going to let you know how I got on with my with my homework So I had, um, unfollowed, I probably unfollowed more than five accounts and I do this periodically anyways. No, I'm not gonna spill the T and tell you who it was that I unfollowed, we don't gotta be naming names. That's not cool, but, I did unfollow some accounts that I'm not resonating with anymore, they don't light me up maybe like they used to. And another thing to keep in mind about unfollowing is like, especially I think on Facebook and Instagram, you can like snooze accounts or people for 30 days. And sometimes I do that instead of completely unfollowing somebody because it might be an account or someone that I do really, really enjoy. I love following them, but I find myself just needing a bit of a break or a little bit of a breather and it has nothing to do with them and it always has something to do with me. Right. So it's always gonna have something to do with you, like where you're at. You might be having a bad week or a bit of a bad, um, season, whatever you wanna call it. Something's just triggering you, that you need to sit and think and look within to, to figure out what's going on, Normally, what I'll do in that case is snooze them because it is an account or someone that I do really enjoy following, but for whatever reason, they're bringing up some shit in me and I just need to, pause for a minute, catch my breath and that's okay. You gotta do what's best for you. So just remember that, you don't have to make a whole big announcement about what you're doing anyways. I don't want to, get back on that, wagon today because today is a brand new episode and what we are gonna talk about today is me getting to the shift event that was put on by Emily King and Gina keeping. So it was an event that happened last month. And I wanna talk to you about my journey of getting there to Newfoundland. Now you might be thinking, okay, Sarah, but that's like a two minute story. You'll tell us you bought your ticket and you showed up to the event, right? And as you get to know me, you will quickly find out that nothing is ever just two minutes with me. Side note, that's what she said. Um, but no, for real though, I like to tell a story and I really like to tell stories with all the gory painstaking details that even as I'm telling you the story, I'll be thinking in my head okay, Sarah, shut up. Hurry this along. They don't care about this piece of, the story. It probably doesn't make a difference, but you know what? We're gonna do it. We're doing it all. You're getting all the painstaking details today of my journey, getting to the shift event. So settle in friends, grab your coffee, grab your crochet, grab whatever you want. And let me take you on a little journey. I don't remember exactly when, but it was probably a few months prior to the event happening. And Emily announced that she was doing this event and right away, my sacral said hell's yes, sign me up. I'm there. Uh, I'm getting there to Emily and for those of you in that are into human design, I'm a sacral authority, so that totally tracks. I'm really leaning into following and doing what lights me the fuck up and not getting so stuck in my head about it and letting all of that ego yucky talk kind of talk me out of it when my body is telling me, showing me the signs. Yes, you want to do this! You need to do this. I found Emily, Emily King. I found her back in 2019 at an event actually in similar, you know, um, like mindset, self development, um, that type of an event. So I went to one in 2019 and that's the first time that I heard about her, listened to her speak and it was the greatest find ever. I'm so glad that I found her. So Emily King, she's a wealth and an abundance coach. She's the money mindset queen. You really need her in your life. I've tagged her below in the show notes. So I would definitely go check her out. So she co-led this event co put on co I don't know. Her and another awesome coach, Gina Keeping put this event on together. I didn't know Gina all that well until the event. but I love her. She has this super fun, feisty vibe so of course that was totally, up my alley. I've also tagged her down below in the show notes okay, now that those details are out of the way, let's get back to my journey of getting to the event. So like I had said, the event was in Newfoundland. I live in Nova Scotia. So obviously right off the bat that brought up the whole, I gotta travel, I gotta get accommodations and all that logistics So I was like, yes, hell yeah, I wanna get there. okay, well, Sarah, you gotta like, actually get there. You gotta book a flight, you gotta book a hotel okay, I'll figure that out. I'm not too, too worried. I'll get it figured out. Then comes the next thing. Um, I do have a husband. I do have two small kids, you know, a household, a dog, so then I had to see, what was going on that weekend? so I pop open our our family, Google calendar. That's how we keep things somewhat straight, in our family. well wouldn't you freaking know it. It was the same weekend as my husband's golf trip. So him and some of his friends go away for the weekend playing golf. Right? So this is a yearly thing that they do, and it's always booked like, well in advance and whatnot, and yeah, it's the same freaking weekend. Wow. That sucks. Eh, now, normally that would've totally stopped me right in my tracks. And I would've been like, well, shit, that really sucks. Can't do it. Can't go. Boo. Like, and then I would just be like super sad all weekend, seeing all the amazing things happening on Instagram from the event, but still there was, there were like, and it wasn't even a spark. I don't even know how I want to describe it. But inside was just like, you'll figure this out. let's figure this out. So, What did I do? Well, I called on some of my supports. I am really, really grateful and so thankful that I have some supports, aside from my husband that I can call on.
Sarah:Now I'm really grateful and thankful to have some awesome supports in my life, aside from my husband. my parents live super close. And then I have, my best friend who is pretty much a sister and you know, the kids auntie. So I had some plans cooking. Now another fun thing to mention is that this would be my first time ever flying by myself. I never had to travel for work and any other time I'd be traveling that I would have to fly, like we're going on vacation so I was going with at least one other person. So that definitely brought up a bit of anxiety, for sure. I don't know if any of you out there right now, are you feeling anxiety rise up in you of thinking of, you know, all these obstacles, all these things that are getting in my way of a good time. I wasn't letting that happen, wasn't letting it happen. Also I didn't even know anybody that was going. I didn't have friends that we were all getting together and going I didn't know any acquaintances or anybody. I wasn't aware of anyone that was going. And so I'm just like, Sarah's like, yes, I'm getting there. I'm going. I'm gonna have a good time going by myself. I tell you a few years ago this wouldn't even have been a thought that I would even have done it. It would've been a thought to be like, shit, that would be super cool if I would go but no, that would stress me out. I have to do this, have to do that like too much anxiety. Well, Sarah in 2022 said not today. Aint nobody got time for that anymore. And I wasn't letting any of that get in my way of showing up for myself and getting to this event. There was something in me that knew I needed to get there. I had been in some of these events. I had been in different coaching programs and I knew getting in a room with a hundred people that were there for the same reasons, they had the same drive, the same visions, the same, whatever that they wanted to do for themselves. That's where I wanna be. That's where I need to be. So, I made it happen. My best friend came. She stayed at the house with the kids for the weekend. My husband went, he had a great time on his golf trip. I could go and have a fabulous weekend in Newfoundland. That was basically all about me. I could just go and focus on me and do what I needed to do for me. Now that sounds all fine and dandy, right? but there's more, there's more, I told you this was gonna be longer than two minutes. Just hold one sec. I gotta take a sip here. Okay. I grabbed a sour beer, at the liquor store today. Oh, it's really good. It's Blackberry and guava. It's really tasty. So that's what I'm sipping on today as we're talking through this. I like to think, I'm a pretty laid back chill person, maybe I would describe it as I am an extremely chill person that has zero chill. I don't know if that makes sense. Let me explain, let me explain. This is where the story's going. So, I had everything figured out that was all great. Like da, da, da, everything done, right? No, this is where the laid back chill with zero chill comes in. So there's this local photographer in St. John's. I had met her in a program that I did last summer. She offers branding sessions for business owners. So you go in and you spend a few hours with her and she'll take, photos that you can use all over your social. And she'll also help, you with your social, like your posting or your captions or whatnot. what she really does is helps you get the juices flowing, she'll ask you different things about your business and, your vision and your mission and, what you want and how you wanna put yourself out there. So we have that conversation and then she takes photos that will match up and you have, have three to six months worth of amazing business assets to use. I'll put her in the show notes as well, I highly recommend checking her out. seeing her branding sessions, everyone looked like they were having the best time and I'm all about having a good time. So I thought that would be so fun. This was weeks after, I've already had everything, all booked, all done, everything figured out, and then this idea drops in my head. Damn. That would be cool if you could get in with Alex and have a session. Then my ego starts talking okay, well girl, you get in Friday afternoon, you go to the event all day, Saturday, you fly out Sunday morning. Like there's no time for photo shoot, right? I did him and ha over this for a couple weeks thinking, I'm gonna reach out. no, why am I gonna do that? So short notice, cuz this was a month out to the event. She's not gonna have any time. There's no room blah, blah, blah. Right? the ego, finally broke through all of this and was like, no girl, you're trying to do too much. You're asking for too much, once I wised up to what was going on, I said, fuck that and I sent Alex a message cuz if she can't do it, she can't do it and then it'll be done. Lo and behold, she was available. she had time Friday afternoon. But in order for that to happen, I had to change my flight. I was able to change my flight. The week before I was leaving for Newfoundland, I also had another bright idea. why don't I see if I can get someone to do my hair before the photo session? because hair is not my thing. I wear very minimal makeup so I wasn't worried about that, I would just throw on a little bit of lip gloss and I would be fine. But my hair, I wanted it to look good. So I asked, I asked Alex's admin, if there was any local places that, you know, do my hair. So I called them and I got, in. So as you heard throughout that story, there were a lot of things and a lot of obstacles that I could have let stop me in my tracks, stop me from getting to this thing that I wanted so badly, It was so nice to see her and meet her in person and give her a hug. And, oh my goodness we laughed the whole time. She makes you feel so at ease and so comfortable, and you kind of forgot that you were having your pictures taken. I'm not too shy around the camera, but it literally was just, hanging out with a friend for a couple hours and you got a bunch of bomb ass photographs to show for it. It was so good. Well, that's the journey of how I got to the shift event and I took this whole shift event thing quite literally, as there were a lot of things I had to shift around. Okay. I know, I know that was really bad, that's embarrassing. I swear I'm funnier than that. but that's all I got for today. What I want you to take from this episode is that there's always going to be something that gets in your way. No matter how big or small it is, there is gonna be something that gets in the way of doing what you truly want to do, of where you want to go, where you want to get to, what you want to accomplish. If I had done that, I would not have had the best weekend it was so fun. I ended up meeting a couple people, that were at the event. We went out saturday night for dinner and hung out and now we're still connected. So you never know what can happen. Don't let these obstacles and things that pop up, stop you from doing it because if you do, you're missing out on so much amazingness Hello, so much joy you could be creating for yourself If I would've let those things stop me, I wouldn't have experienced all the awesomeness and magic that happened at the event, but you're gonna have to tune in to the next episode when I chat all about what happened gonna leave you a little cliff hanger. Can't wait to tell you about everything that happened at the event, but like I said, that's gonna be for next time. The thing about joy is that we are an active participant in our joy. We cannot simply just wait for it to happen to us. We cannot just wait to feel it. We must create it. We must create it for ourselves. Spoiler alert. We are in full control. Of our joy. So my goal with each episode is to leave you with a takeaway what I'm calling a joy challenge, something that you can do to take actionable steps right now today to start creating more joy in your life. All right. So today for your joy challenge don't let those little things stop you no matter what it is, it literally can be the smallest, silliest little thing where normally you'd be like, oh, you know what? No, whatever, just don't okay. You have to call bullshit on yourself, and hold yourself accountable for not letting those things get in the way, cuz they are great excuses to kind of not either get outside your comfort zone a little bit or to not really put yourself out there or work towards what you want because it might be a little bit inconvenient. Or hard or, uncomfortable. So my joy challenge is the next time there is something that you want to do and some type of obstacle or something gets in your way. Just keep fucking moving through it. Just literally kick it to the side and keep moving towards what you want to. I promise you, you will feel like a total badass, and know that I'm behind you, helping you push yourself right through whatever that BS is. Don't let those things get in your way of the big, huge things that could be happening. Thank you so much for listening. And remember sharing is caring friends.
